As I opened the back of our rental minivan, an avalanche of canned salmon cascaded down the mountain of overstuffed luggage. The farmers market vendor’s spiel had worked and my mom caved, buying 30 cans. Three things to point out about the Peek family: We buy in bulk, we are chronic over-packers, and we love road trips. Put those together and you end up at a gas station in Vancouver with fish at your feet. I gently moved Kylie’s graduation cap to the side and tucked the cans back in the trunk. It was the end of a memorable trip, a trip for the books – a graduation, a birthday, a border crossing, and a whole lot of shellfish.
